how does climbing to 8000ft change your wine tasting palate?
ngl so i was just down at the crag, pulling on a slab at 8000ft and then popped open a bottle of pinot that i saved for the descent lol the altitude kinda turned my tongue into a desert, all the fruit flavors felt muted like a foggy morning on a cliff face i swear the tannins hit harder too, like a sudden gust on a ledge i guess lower oxygen pressure messes with your olfactory receptors? anyone else notice their palate going all weird after a high‑altitude climb tbh i’m curious if this is just a temporary thing or if repeated climbs can actually train your taste buds to be more sensitive to subtle notes like a climber’s grip adapting to micro‑edges
