questioning the myth of golden hour

I've been thinking a lot about photography lately and I have to say, I'm getting a bit tired of everyone saying that golden hour is the best time to shoot. Don't get me wrong, it can be beautiful, but is it really that much better than other times of day? I've taken some of my favorite photos during overcast skies or even at night. There's something about the soft, diffused light that I just love. And lets be real, sometimes golden hour can be a bit... cliché. I mean, how many photos of sunsets or warmly lit cities can we see before they all start to blend together? I'm not saying it's not a great time to shoot, but I think we need to start exploring other times of day and seeing what kind of unique perspectives we can capture. Anyone else feel like I'm onto something here or am I just being contrarian?
