Why does my Monstera deliciosa feel like the 2004 "Cactus Killer" cold case?

I was repotting my Monstera (FIC-0012) this morning and the way the split‑leaf holes opened up reminded me of that infamous "Cactus Killer" episode from 2004. You know, the one where the suspect left a trail of shredded soil and a half‑eaten cactus in the dorm hallway?

The MO was all about the soil pH – they kept it at 6.5 to preserve the cactus spines, just like I keep my mix at 6.5 for the Monstera. My LED grow light (GLO‑5000, 1200K) flickers the same way the hallway fluorescents did in the background of that reenactment.

Anyone else get that eerie vibe when a plant's growth pattern mirrors a cold case? I swear the new leaf unfurled like a piece of evidence being lifted – crisp, green, and a little too perfect.

  • Soil mix: peat moss + perlite (3:1) – keeps the roots airy, just like the crime scene investigators kept the evidence dry.
  • Light schedule: 14h on, 10h off – mirrors the suspect's night‑shift alibi.
  • Watering: once a week, 250ml – the exact amount the forensic team used to rinse the cactus.

Feels like I'm living in a true‑crime documentary every time I water this thing. Anyone else have a plant that triggers a specific case memory?
