Are sodium bicarbonate buffers any use for reducing post‑run muscle burn?

I've read mixed reports on dumping baking soda into a recovery drink. Some claim it neutralizes lactic acid, others say it just messes with stomach pH and offers no real benefit. Is there solid chemistry backing its efficacy, or is it hype? Anyone with data or personal tests?
