Help: Best plugin chain for mixing drums on 24‑bit/96kHz using Waves SSL G‑Master Buss Compressor vs UAD LA‑2A
Need a no‑bullshit chain for punchy drums in a high‑res mix. I'm running Pro Tools 2023, 24‑bit/96kHz, and I'm stuck between the Waves SSL G‑Master Buss and the UAD LA‑2A on the snare bus.
What order do you swear by? 1️⃣ Hi‑res EQ (e.g. FabFilter Pro‑Q3 12‑band) before compression? 2️⃣ Parallel compression using a Waves SSL G‑MultiMax? 3️⃣ Any nice‑tone saturator (Sonnox Oxford Inflator?) before the LA‑2A?
Also, does the SSL G‑Master really make a difference at 96kHz or is it just a marketing hype? And how about using the UAD 1176LN in a “fast‑attack, slow‑release” setting for the kick – any real‑world numbers?
