How do I incorporate a traditional Japanese koi tattoo stencil into a patchwork blanket design using a 1800 machine?

I’m trying to blend my love for tattoo art with my quilting. I’ve got a koi stencil printed on my 8x10" canvas fabric and want to stitch it onto a quilt top. Here’s what I need help with:

• Stencil placement: Should I trace the line art onto the base fabric first, or can I use it directly over the cotton?
• Thread choice: Which metallic thread gives the best “ink” effect without bleeding on the cotton? I’ve heard about the ALC Silver line.
• Backing: Do I need an extra layer of batting under the silk‑screened fabric or will the stencil hold up with the usual 2" batting?
• Machine settings: I use a Singer 1800. What stitch length and needle size is ideal for a 1" line? I think a size 11 needle could work, but not sure.
• Cleaning up: If the ink spreads, how do I clean the fabric without ruining the design?

I’d love to hear about other quilters who’ve tried this. Any tips on maintaining sharp line work or avoiding frays around the edges would be awesome. Thanks in advance for your input!
