Just realized I've been misjudging live sound quality

So I was at this concert over the weekend and I'm standing there thinking the sound system is totally subpar. I mean, the guitars were all muddy and the vocals were way too loud. But then I started talking to one of the sound engineers after the show and it turns out they were using this new compression technique that's supposed to make the sound more even across the whole venue. I guess what I thought was bad sound quality was actually just me not being used to it. Kind of embarrassing to admit, but I learned something new. Anyone else ever have something like that happen?
