Overthinking Performances

I've been watching a lot of theater recordings lately and I've started to notice that I'm spending more time analyzing the director's choices than actually enjoying the show. It's like I'm trying to reverse-engineer the entire production, figuring out why they made certain decisions and how they achieved specific effects. I'm not sure if this is just a result of my own obsessive personality or if it's a common experience for theater enthusiasts. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing out on the emotional impact of the performance because I'm too busy deconstructing it. Has anyone else ever felt like they're overanalyzing performances to the point where it detracts from their overall experience? I'd love to hear about how you balance critical thinking with simple enjoyment of the art form.
