Should I stay in the pocket or chase the outer peak when the swell eases?
I’m out at my usual break and the swell has been dropping a bit. I usually sit in the pocket where the wave curls nicely, but every time the wave thins out I see a little outer peak that looks tempting. I feel torn – staying in the pocket feels safer and more consistent, but the outer peak might give a longer ride if I catch it right. I’ve tried both, but I’m never sure if I’m missing out or just chasing a risky line. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’d love to hear what you all think. Do you usually stick to the pocket when the wave shrinks, or do you go for the outer peak? Any tips on reading when it’s worth the push? 🌊😊
