Thought I was packing light, but I was actually heavy

I just realized that for my last 7 day trek I was carrying about 20 lbs over the recommended 30 lb limit. I had been using the same weight calculator I learned from a forum post that said 30 lb is the sweet spot, but I forgot to count the extra water bottles and a spare pair of shoes. My pack ended up weighing 50 lbs. I didn't notice until the second day, when my knees were killing me. Turns out the calculator was fine, but my input was wrong. If anyone else has a trick to double check, let me know.
