truffle oil in fine dining
I've been to a few high end restaurants lately and I'm starting to think truffle oil is just a gimmick. Every dish that's supposed to be infused with truffles tastes like it's just been drizzled with some generic earthy flavoring. I mean, I get it, real truffles are expensive and hard to come by, but can't these chefs just be honest about what they're using? It's like they're trying to pass off some cheap alternative as the real deal. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I just being a snob or is truffle oil really just a way for restaurants to charge more for their dishes?
