Why All-New Linux Users Should Ditch Ubuntu (But No One Will)

I’m curious — why do everyone keep handing new users Ubuntu as if it’s some kind of safe default? ⏰ It’s fine as an entry point, but the minute they get a bit comfortable, they’re locked into snapcraft and Ubuntu-specific package hell. Arch gives users way more agency, Debian is rock solid, and even Fedora is more forward-thinking. Sure, Ubuntu has LTS and ‘ease of use’, but at what cost? 🤷 I challenge anyone to explain why a distro with 6-month release cycles suddenly becomes ‘the one’ for beginners. Is this just marketing inertia? I’m not arguing for Arch over Ubuntu in particular, but I will fight for the right to question why Ubuntu keeps being positioned as the only way in. Thoughts? (P.S. This isn’t an Arch shill thread, but if you want to talk that, let me hear it! 😄)
