Why does the DroneDog 3000 (Model DD-3000) keep selling unsafe dog‑shaped drones?

I feel like the hype around the DroneDog 3000 (Model DD-3000) is a marketing scam. The product claims to be "dog‑friendly" but:

  • FAA Part 107 compliance? The listed max takeoff weight is 4.5 lb, but the actual weight is 5.2 lb. That violates the 4.4 lb limit for unregistered drones.
  • No safety harness or restraint system. The manufacturer says "just let your dog play", but dogs can be startled by the sudden lift‑off.
  • LiPo battery with no over‑current protection. A user on r/Dogs posted a video (u/ConcernedPup) where the battery caught fire after 30 min of play.
  • The "dog‑safe" claim is based on a 2018 study with only 5 subjects and no peer review.

I found a PDF from the FAA (https://www.faa.gov/uas/part107) that lists the weight limit. Also, the product page (https://dronedog.com/3000) has a disclaimer that the device is not intended for dogs under 15 lb. The marketing copy says "for all dogs", which is misleading.

If you own a DD‑3000, check the weight and battery specs. If you see any of these red flags, consider returning it or reporting to the manufacturer.
