why everyone’s soil advice is making your plants sad (and what i did instead)

tbh i’ve been ignoring all the gardeners saying ‘peat is king’ and my plants are happier than ever

i switched to this coconut coir-based mix 3 months ago and my basil is growing like it’s trying to escape the planet pH is more stable too like why is nobody talking about this?

imo peat moss is overrated and slightly unethical to harvest (yes i looked it up) coir is renewable and holds way more moisture

my setup rn:

  • 60% coir
  • 30% compost (own kitchen scraps)
  • 10% perlite

results:

  • no more daily watering
  • roots are visible through the pot lol
  • tomatoes aren’t falling over from blossom end rot

so why is everyone still using peat? i’m not saying it’s perfect but this works for me (and my plants)

Weed seed packets: who packs these?

Spent $13 on an 'all-natural' sunflower seed pouch labeled 200 g. Empty? Nope. Popped it wide open then stared like 5 minutes while picking through 4
