Why does the reverb tail in a d&b J-Series line array feel like an existential echo during live sets?

i was at the downtown show last night, the d&b j-series x8 was blasting the mids and the sub cabinet (2019 sb-4000) just hit that perfect low‑freq push. it hit me that waiting for the first drum hit is basically a meditation on patience—each sub‑pulse feels like a tick of our own mortality. tbh the sound pressure level kinda quantifies how present we are, like the crowd’s synced head‑bobs are a collective heartbeat. maybe it’s just the bass vibrating my ribs, but the reverberation tail lingers like an echo of past choices. anyone else get that philosophical vibe when the dyna‑funk kicks in?

Against Encores

I'm starting to think encores are just a way for artists to gauge how much they're liked. You know, make the crowd beg for more and then reward them with a perfunctory two-song set. Maybe I'm just cynical... but is it really that special when every single concert I've been to in the past year has had an encore? It kinda feels like the norm now, not the exciting exception it's supposed to be. Can we ditch the charade and just play a longer set instead?... or am I just missing the point of it all?

embarrassing music mistake

i was at a festival last weekend and i totally misjudged the setlist for one of my favorite bands. i was so convinced they'd play this one song that's like their biggest hit, but nope. they didn't even touch it. and to make matters worse, i was ranting to my friends about how they always play it and it's their best song... yeah. i felt pretty dumb when they just skipped right over it. has anyone else ever been so sure about a setlist only to be totally wrong?

Ridiculous ticket fees

I just tried to buy tickets for a show this weekend and the fees are insane. Like, I get that venues need to make money, but come on. The ticket itself is 50 bucks and then they're adding on another 20 in fees. What even are these fees for? I'm pretty sure I'm not getting any extra service for that extra 20 bucks. Just feels like they're taking advantage of people who really want to see the show. Anyone else have to deal with this lately?

Scored a cheap front‑row for the upcoming Luna Fest – you’ll thank me later

Okay, so I managed to snag a front‑row spot for Luna Fest next month for like half the normal price. Got it off a buddy’s extra ticket and didn’t even have to jump through the usual insane resale sites.

Anyone else think these “miracle deals” are just luck or is there a secret playbook? I’m feeling pretty smug, but also wondering if I’m about to be the only one bragging about a bargain when the crowd is packed.

What do you think – am I being an overconfident cheapskate or is this the kind of win that makes the whole night worth it? Let me know if you’ve pulled something similar or if I’m just being a pretentious fan.

Best way to capture high-quality audio at a live concert without getting caught

I recently attended a concert and was really impressed by the sound quality. I've been thinking about how to capture high-quality audio at live events without disturbing the performers or getting caught. I've heard that some people use portable recorders like the Zoom H5 or H6, but I'm not sure if they're allowed at all venues. Has anyone had experience with this? What are some good options for capturing clear audio without breaking the bank or getting kicked out?
