#stand-up comedy

I've been watching a lot of stand-up comedy lately and I found myself rewatching some of my favorite specials. Is that normal? I mean, I know some people might think it's weird to watch the same jokes over and over, but I feel like I catch something new each time. Or maybe I'm just trying to relive the funny moment... do others do this too?

I just got back from an open mic night and I'm still fuming. The host, who I've seen kill it on stage before, completely bombed. I mean, it was like he forgot how to be funny. The worst part is, he took up way too much time, leaving barely any room for the actual comedians to perform. I was looking forward to seeing some new faces, but instead we got stuck with this guy's awkward silences and stale jokes. What's the point of having an open mic if you're just going to let the host hog the stage? I've seen some great comedy recently, but this just put a sour taste in my mouth. Can't we just have a decent host for once?

What's the general consensus on using the butterfly stroke in stand-up comedy sets? I've seen some comedians use it to transition between bits, but others seem to hate it. Is it a useful tool or a crutch?
