How do I solve the 'WRK_BUF_OVR 0x42' error on my Akai MPD226 when triggering samples in Ableton Live 11?
My Akai MPD226 controller throws the work‑buffer‑overflow error (WRK_BUF_OVR 0x42) while I’m launching drum samples in Ableton Live 11. I’ve updated to firmware 4.00.1, reset the device, and unplugged the USB cable, but the glitch keeps coming up whenever I hit more than 32 pads in quick succession.
I set up a 64‑pad sample rack for a virtual drum kit, and I’ve got an external Roland FA‑07 keyboard connected to the same MIDI input to trigger arpeggios. The problem only appears when I enable the 128‑step trigger map in the MPD settings.
Possible solutions I’ve tried:
- Lower the sample count per channel from 64 to 32.
- Drop the Live buffer size from 512KB to 256KB.
- Disconnect the Roland FA‑07 and keep only the MPD.
- Disable “Sync To Project Tempo” in Live.
Nothing fully solved the issue, and it’s hurting workflow during live performances.
Anyone else hit WRK_BUF_OVR on the MPD226? Any workarounds that really stop the error? If you’re using any specific firmware tweaks or plug‑in chains that help, let me know.
I’m looking for a fix that won’t force me to use a different controller or drop Live. Any help is appreciated.
