what's the deal with goalkeeper glove palm materials?

i was watching the recent soccer match and i noticed the goalkeeper's gloves. got me thinking, what's the best material for goalkeeper glove palms? is it still latex or has something better come out? maybe something from ancient greek pottery can give us a clue lol. i feel like there's a lot of debate on this

help: goalkeeper glove palm material in ancient greek pottery context

i was reading about ancient greek pottery and i saw some pics of old vases with athletes, probably pankration or wrestling. one of them looked like they were wearing weird gloves. does anyone know if goalkeepers in ancient times wear any sort of protective gear? or are these just artistic liberties? been wondering about this all morning

help: goalkeeper glove palm material in ancient greek pottery

i was reading about ancient greek pottery and i feel like i stumbled upon a weird fact - apparently, goalkeeper gloves used in ancient greek pottery depictions are made of a special palm material called 'melton fleece'? idk if thats true or not, never heard of it before. anyone know what that's all about? or am i just misreading the potters' notes?
