Bedtime mistake that makes me cringe
Around dinnertime, my daughter (4.5yo) gets this weird calm before total toddler meltdown #4 of the day. Today I panicked and told her, 'If you don’t fall asleep here by 8 or I get a bad headache. I can’t fight you again.’ She looked shocked and actually cried because she didn’t know sleep was an option. My wife corrected me later—it’s bedtime but not naptimes now anyway. 😅
Sometimes the guilt-trip tactics we use during toddler power-struggles come back with weird logic. She trusted us to know better for weeks. Now she’s sitting up wide awake, thinking she has no choice in both napping/breakdown timing?
I’m sure someone here has done this too. How do you keep boundaries without making sleep something a kid fears?
