Fishing Faux Pas I Still Cringe At...

How many of you have made a total goober move while fishing and only realized it years later????? ... Okay fine I’ll go first. So there this one time I was like 12 and way too confident for my age? My grandpa tried to teach me to catch bass using worms as bait, but I thought I knew better and decided to watch a YouTube tutorial instead. The video guy was using this weird dough-looking bait they called 'fishing bread'... I’m not even sure what it is but I mixed flour, cornmeal, and... wait did he say peanut butter?? Anyway I rolled it into a ball and tied it to my hook. Spent TWO HOURS tossing that stupid doughy mess into the lake, catching zero bass but probably some confused catfish? Finally gave up and went home, only to realize the tutorial was for carp or something?? My grandpa almost died laughing when I showed him the 'dough bait'... still cringe thinking about it. What dumb moves have you all made???

Do you ever clean fish before taking them out of the water?

Okay so here's my weird habit — whenever I land a fish, I start scaling/embracing it while it’s still flopping around in my net. Like immediately... you know? Not even waiting till it’s dead.?? Everyone in my guidebook says to finish with the guts later, but I’m nervous about bacteria spreading if I let it sit. Does the meat quality even matter if you’re filleting it on-site... or am I just being a hygienic perfectionist here? Any other twitchy fishers do this too?
