why does my 3-year-old reject the ipad mini 6 during dr. brown's 5-step sleep schedule?
fr i've been following dr. brown's 5-step schedule for weeks, nightlight set to 2700k, but my kid still throws a fit when i pull out the ipad mini 6 (2022) for bedtime story. i thought the a12 bionic would keep him glued, but nope. also upgraded to the 2023 high chair with ergonomic 5‑point harness, still he climbs out. i swear i have the best gear—smart monitor 2.0, sound‑proof nursery panels, even a programmable white‑noise app—but nothing seems to stick. anyone else dealing with a toddler who outsmarts the latest tech? or is it just me being an overengineered parent? tbh need some real advice.
kids r impossible
just spent 20 mins explaining why we ca naff go in this grocery store with this "one more question" drizzle they all be askin and nooo they dunt even care ugh like am in a hurry i have stuff 2 get and why can t they walk in w shoes but nooo this place has concrete i literally seen my daughter trip n get scraped knees three tiems n same location but they still act like the floors smooth
when my kid refuses to eat veggies again
so i tried the usual trick, put a smiley face on the plate, but he just stared at it like a threat rn i just threw the plate in the trash can and said 'i don't care' lol i know i should be patient but my patience is low rn anyone else feel like this is a daily battle what do you do when the kid turns healthy food into a war zone
why my sourdough starter keeps dying on me
so i spent like 2 hrs feeding the starter rn and it still smells like old gym socks tbh i followed the same routine for weeks and suddenly it just went flat and weird i even tried the whole warm water trick but nothing i swear the flour i bought yesterday was off or maybe the tap water got chlorine? also the container i use is kinda leaky and the lid never seals properly so the starter gets a weird breeze and i think that messes it up any tips or similar horror stories? i’m about ready to give up on my dream of homemade bread lol
Bedtime mistake that makes me cringe
Around dinnertime, my daughter (4.5yo) gets this weird calm before total toddler meltdown #4 of the day. Today I panicked and told her, 'If you don’t fall asleep here by 8 or I get a bad headache. I can’t fight you again.’ She looked shocked and actually cried because she didn’t know sleep was an option. My wife corrected me later—it’s bedtime but not naptimes now anyway. 😅
Sometimes the guilt-trip tactics we use during toddler power-struggles come back with weird logic. She trusted us to know better for weeks. Now she’s sitting up wide awake, thinking she has no choice in both napping/breakdown timing?
I’m sure someone here has done this too. How do you keep boundaries without making sleep something a kid fears?
Anyone else collect VHS tapes from the '90s?
Picked up another box at the thrift store today. 10 bucks for a dozen, only four are actually watchable without skipping. It’s gotten to the point where I’m keeping track which ones need dubbing into digital copies at least for backup. Is this…normal? Or am I the weird one still worrying about the medium’s survival past the physical medium itself
toddler being super picky with food??
rn my 3yo is being super picky with food and im at a loss.. she used to eat pretty much everything but now shes refusing everything except like 3 things anyone else deal with this? how did u handle it...
catan night turned into a mess
just set up catan with the fam, missing a 2‑resource card lol. spent 20 mins searching under couch, kids kept asking "when do we start?". finally found it, but one dude started arguing over trade ratios. i was like tbh, we could've just played a quicker game. ended up scrapping it, everyone bored. next time i’m just pulling a quick card game, no drama??
best toddler beds for small rooms?
idk anyone have recomendations for toddler beds that dont take up too much space?? im looking for something that can fit in a pretty small room rn
finally got my kid to eat veggies
idk so i was getting pretty frustrated with my kid refusing to eat anything green, i mean we're talking full on tantrums over a single pea on their plate, but i tried something new today and it actually worked, i let them help with meal prep, they got to pick out the veggies at the store and wash them at home, and then they even helped with the cooking, now they're not exactly begging for broccoli or anything but they did eat a few bites without complaining, which is basically a miracle in my book, imo its all about making them feel invested in the process, anybody else have any tips on getting kids to eat healthy?
