why people keep going 8'' trucks when 9'' shows a better pop and still look slick on old decks? 8'' were a thing of the past, but prices have stayed flat and no big diff in real‑world traction, just a little more drama on a rail. still get a lot of them off a pallet in the backyard with a 100$ discount, so it's still hype. what u think?

I just got this new 2023 Vans Sk8‑Hi and it feels like the deck is a different planet. The trucks are fine, bearings are 608, but the deck keeps sliding when I try a simple kickflip. I used a 3 mm grip tape, cleaned the surface, checked the truck bushings, but nothing changes.

• Cleaned deck with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry.
• Replaced grip tape with a 4 mm version.
• Tightened truck bolts to 2.5 mm.
• Tried a different set of 608 bearings.

Still the same problem. I thought the 2023 Vans Sk8‑Hi had better grip. Am I missing something obvious? Anyone else experienced this? Need help before I start losing confidence on the park. Thanks in advance.

just spent the afternoon tinkering with my setup... so i swapped out my old indy 149s for some shiny new 151 forge baseplates. what a diff!! my ollies feel way more solid now. was runnin a royal 5.25 truck before but had to loosen the kingpin a bit to get used to the new width. skatepark tomorrow can't wait to test it out proper. who else has made the switch to 151s?? any tips for gettin the most out of the new baseplates??

so i was skating at the park rn and i tried to land this stupid trick like 10 times and i finally just ate it, snapped the deck in half lol. im so done with this spot, the pavement is all uneven and its ruining my vibe. anyone else have trouble with the ledges here? theyre all chunky and stuff
