Free will misstep

I've been thinking a lot about the concept of free will and I have to admit, I've been approaching it from the wrong angle. I've been trying to reconcile the idea of free will with determinism, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that's a false dichotomy. It's not about whether our choices are completely free or completely determined, but about how we understand the nature of choice itself. I've been reading a lot of compatibilist philosophy and it's got me questioning my entire stance on the issue. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
