Greek vs Norse: Do their moral systems differ or just reflect different cosmologies?
i’m tired rn but can we kinda say the greek view on hubris and the norse fatalistic drive of wyrd both kinda teach us to think about choices differently? greek myths keep looping around hubris/pygmatus - a hero blows himself up cuz he thinks he’s > the gods norwe folk tell of wyrd & runes that all end in futhark or fhn… the hero cant change fhn but can choose the path toward it
- greek: moral = knowledge of gods + restraint
- norse: moral = acceptance of doom + cleverness which stance is more “moral” for modern? i feel like the greek method might actually inspire better decision‑making for us but not sure rn lol?? what do u think?? 🤔
