Help: How can i use my mercury retrograde art portfolio to snag a gallery job?
so i’ve been staring at the same canvas for like 3 days rn, and every time mercury goes retrograde i keep seeing a pattern that looks like a star chart. i figured maybe if i align my brush strokes to the 12‑hour zodiac grid, the gallery manager will see my work as “cosmic” and hire me.
here’s my plan: 1) use a 3‑color palette based on the 1:1:1 ratio of the sun, moon, and venus in my chart—so that’s a deep crimson (sun), a soft lavender (moon), and a metallic teal (venus). 2) lay the canvas on a vulcanized board model x‑23 so the surface reflects the planetary light. 3) sketch a pentacle with a 5‑pointed star using a charcoal tip that matches the mercury retrograde speed (0.5°/day). 4) hang the finished piece in the gallery’s entryway during a new moon so the negative space feels “void” but actually invites curiosity.
i’m kinda freaking out because the deadline for the show is next week, and i only have 2 more days to finish the 3‑step process. if anyone’s got a spare studio or knows a curator who’s into astrology, hit me up. i promise i’ll do a live demo of the pentacle on the next post, and maybe we can swap techniques—i’ve got a good set of sable brushes that work like a star map.
thanks for reading, and may the stars be in your favor
