Help: Paradoxical social aversion after intranasal oxytocin in Asperger’s subjects — what’s the mechanism?

I’ve been digging into preclinical studies on oxytocin’s modulatory effects and hit an odd recurring result: in ~18% of Asperger’s participants undergoing clinical trials, intranasal administration (54 µg/dose) triggered transient social avoidance instead of the expected bonding boost. This shows up in 2008 Andari et al. work and pops again in the 2021 Soria-Vázquez rodent model, where OT-R antagonists reversed the effect.

The kicker is the amygdala’s delta activity dropping 1.2–2.5 Hz below baseline in these cases—totally inverse to neurotypical patterns. Any neuropharmacologists out there see similar profiles in other sub-cohorts? I’m thinking maybe AVPR2 polymorphisms or downstream kisspeptin interactions at play here?
