Poetry mistake I'm too proud to admit

so here's a facepalmer from my past. about five years ago i confidently quoted shelley's "ode to a skunk" at a book club and everyone thought i was serious. nobody dared correct me but my god the eye rolls were brutal.

turns out i misread all the way to the end of stanza 8 and thought it was a fragrance review. someone finally leaned over during stanza 12 and whispered 'that isn't how that goes' but by then we were into performance art.

any other poetry fools remember accidentally weaponizing a metaphor into a literal instruction manual? just me? good.
