Procreate vs Photoshop for detailed orchid illustration: which preserves color fidelity?

I’ve been trying to render realistic orchid petals and ran into a color shift issue. Tested both apps on iPad Pro (M2) and desktop (Adobe CC 2024). Here’s what I observed:

• Color profiles: Procreate defaults to Display P3, Photoshop to sRGB unless you manually set AdobeRGB. The pink shades of Cymbidium looked more vibrant in Procreate, but printed samples matched Photoshop’s AdobeRGB output.
• Brush engine: Procreate’s live brush rendering feels smoother for fine vein work, but Photoshop’s smudge and mixer brush give finer control when layering translucent layers.
• GPU acceleration: Both are fast, but Photoshop stalls on large PSDs >500 MP (when I turned on 16‑bit). Procreate handles 12‑bit LUTs without lag.
• Layer handling: Photoshop’s adjustment layers let me tweak hue per petal without rasterizing. Procreate requires duplication and blending modes, which adds steps.
• Export options: Photoshop exports TIFF with embedded ICC profiles cleanly. Procreate needs an extra step to export as PSD or TIFF, and sometimes loses layer masks.

Verdict: For quick, on‑the‑fly sketches where color vibrancy matters, Procreate wins. For final prints and precise color management, Photoshop is more reliable.
