Truffle Oil in Fine Dining: Overhyped or Underrated?

Let me get this off my chest. Truffle oil in high-end restaurants is a gimmick. I just paid $12 for a pasta dish where the truffle oil was the only 'special' ingredient. It tasted like someone spilled a bottle of garlic butter and called it a day. Real truffle shavings? That’s a different ballgame. But this? It’s just a cheap shortcut to make you feel fancy. Chefs love it because it’s easy to slather on, but it’s not adding depth—it’s just a flavor grenade that goes off in your mouth. If you want truffle, order the actual shaved stuff or skip it. This oil is the culinary equivalent of spray tanning your food. Thoughts?
