What’s the general consensus on jibe angle vs bearing heel in upwind sailing
tbh tbh most forums i read split hairs over whether to prioritize flat boat speed with higher jibe angles or lean into heel for tighter wind angles when tacking up. some devs even sim this in mmorpg ship mechanics like guild wars 2 now. imo leaning 5-7 degrees heel in 12-15 knots of breeze gives optimal vmg without keel stress but others say it’s too risky in swells. who made this decision last summer in san diego harbor and what were the consequences? post your data logs
