What’s the general consensus on mixing for loudness‑war versus preserving dynamic range in 2024?

Been hearing two camps loudly (pun intended). One side swears by streaming‑platform loudness presets and pushing LUFS to the max, arguing it’s the only way to get noticed on playlists. The other side argues that dynamic integrity is king and that the few extra dB don’t justify listener fatigue.

From a production standpoint, does the loudness‑war still hold any weight in professional releases, or is it an outdated crutch that harms the music’s artistic intent? What’s the prevailing attitude among mixers and mastering engineers today? Any data points or anecdotal experiences are welcome – especially if you’ve seen a track’s performance shift after a LUFS tweak.

TL;DR: Is the loudness‑war still a thing, or have most pros finally said "enough"?
