Why does Bourdieu's cultural capital theory fail to explain genre loyalty in contemporary music scenes

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and I'm starting to think that Bourdieu's ideas on cultural capital are kinda outdated when it comes to understanding why people stick to certain genres. Like, I know some people who are super into underground hip hop and they don't care about the mainstream stuff, but at the same time they're also really into, like, obscure indie rock. So it's not just about accumulating cultural capital within one specific scene. It's more complicated than that. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
