Why does my rooftop hydroponic farm use a 2:1 light‑to‑shade ratio when the zoning code says 3:1?
So I just finished setting up my rooftop hydroponic farm and, according to the Hydroponic Urban Planning Manual 2024, I’m running a 2:1 light‑to‑shade ratio. But when I checked the local zoning code (Section 12‑5‑B), it says a 3:1 ratio is required for rooftop installations. I’m a bit confused—am I misreading the code or is the manual wrong?
I’ve been using a 600 µmol/m²/s LED PAR array with a 2:1 PGR (photoperiod‑growth ratio) and a standard NFT (nutrient film technique) setup. The code talks about “minimum light‑to‑shade” but never mentions the 2:1 figure.
Could anyone confirm which ratio is actually mandated? Or is there a recent update I missed?
Thanks!
