I’ve been running a batch of TLE‑based simulations for a 1U CubeSat at ~600 km, inclination ~98.7°, using the SGP4 implementation in PyEphem. When I g
Why does Planet’s SkySat-14 NIR data still suffer from uncorrected rolling‑shutter smear?
Enough with the excuses.
The latest NIR tile from SkySat‑14 is still riddled with that classic rolling‑shutter ghost. It’s not a one‑off; the pipeline has ignored the 200 ms read‑out lag since launch.
- Same issue on SkySat‑12/13, never patched.
- ADCS jitter not accounted for in the V2.3 calibration.
- L2A product sheet still touts "<5 m geo‑accuracy" while the ground truth shows >15 m errors.
- Planet’s own FAQ admits the algorithm is "beta" – why is beta shipping?
Bottom line: if you’re paying $30 per sq km for “science‑grade” data, you’re getting consumer‑grade artifacts.
Anyone else fed up with the spin‑up routine still using the 2018 firmware version 3.7? Time for Planet to either fix the pipeline or stop selling false specs.
Let’s hear it—do you trust the “future‑ready” label, or is this the final straw for your procurement?
