tbh the whole 'vintage pressings are overrated' crowd is missing the point entirely. sure mmf pressings sound clean but where's the soul in a 2023 reissue of a 1968 album? original stax or atlantic labels from the 50s/60s have character – warpage, surface noise, even the smell of old lacquer. and don't get me started on people buying 'audiophile' vinyl for $50 when you can flip a 1957 atlantic stereo pressing for 10x that. the 78rpm crowd knows this already but the 'modern vinyl is better' crowd keeps buying into the myth. imo the real crime is how blue note's 1968 mobile fidelity series gets more love than the actual 1954 sessions. prove me wrong
