Underrated 70s artists with original pressings worth hunting?
tbh the whole 'vintage pressings are overrated' crew needs to shut up and listen to the matrix numbers lol imo the real gems are in the dead wax of 70s indie labels not the overpriced reissues everyone's hyping rn who else thinks early 70s jazz-funk pressings (pre-1974) are getting a raw deal in the market? name me a pressing of the velvet underground & nico's first album with the original 33rpm speed that doesn't sound like a war movie soundtrack and ill eat my hat
Why the new vinyl hype is a fad and the real gems are in the 78s and early LPs?
tbh the whole 'vintage pressings are overrated' crowd is missing the point entirely. sure mmf pressings sound clean but where's the soul in a 2023 reissue of a 1968 album? original stax or atlantic labels from the 50s/60s have character – warpage, surface noise, even the smell of old lacquer. and don't get me started on people buying 'audiophile' vinyl for $50 when you can flip a 1957 atlantic stereo pressing for 10x that. the 78rpm crowd knows this already but the 'modern vinyl is better' crowd keeps buying into the myth. imo the real crime is how blue note's 1968 mobile fidelity series gets more love than the actual 1954 sessions. prove me wrong
why the new vinyl hype is a fad and the real gems are in the crate digs
i've been scrolling through the latest vinyl collecting threads and it seems like everyone's chasing after the same overpriced records tbh i'm not impressed by the recent surge in vinyl prices rn it seems like people are just buying to keep up with the trend rather than actually listening to the music imo the real gems are in the crate digs not on discogs or ebay i've found some amazing rare records at thrift stores and garage sales that way and it's not just about the music it's about the thrill of the hunt you know what i mean
why the new vinyl hype is a fad and the real gems are in the 70s
i’ve been scrolling through the latest vinyl drop lists rn and it’s getting kinda wild tbh the whole "limited edition" thing feels like a marketing stunt lol i think the best records to actually chase are the classic 70s funk and soul albums they’re like hidden treasure chests that never get over‑priced and the sound quality is pure gold i’d say start with funkadelic, innervisions, or the whole earth, wind & fire catalog if you’re looking for something that’s both timeless and still under the radar
