Finally got my budget to stick for a month

I stopped buying the daily latte Set up a $300 auto-transfer to a high-yield account. No excuses, just a cold spreadsheet. Ended the month $250 ahead of target. Feels like finding a perfect crease on a paper crane – rare but satisfying.

Normal to review budget weekly?

I've been doing this for a while now, but I was wondering if anyone else reviews their budget on a weekly basis. I know some people do it monthly, but I like to stay on top of my spending. It's not like I'm obsessed or anything, I just think it helps me make better financial decisions. Anyone else do this? Is it overkill or is it pretty standard?

Seeking recommendations for a steady, long‑term investment strategy

Need solid long‑term investment strategies. My capital is 50k, moderate risk tolerance, and I want a balance between growth and stability. Prefer passive vehicles like index funds or ETFs, but I'm open to other options such as dividend‑paying stocks or REITs if they offer decent returns with low maintenance.

Specifically:

  1. What mix of asset classes would you advise for a 3–5 year horizon?
  2. Are there particular sectors or ETFs that have shown consistent performance over the last 5–10 years?
  3. How much allocation to bonds or cash equivalents should I keep to cushion against volatility?
  4. Any good tools or resources for tracking these investments with minimal manual oversight?

I'm looking for suggestions from folks who actually run this kind of portfolio—no generic textbook advice.

Appreciate your insights.

Frustrated with bank's 'budgeting tools'

I just spent 20 minutes trying to set up my bank's new budgeting tool and I'm still not sure how it works. They keep sending me emails saying I can 'track my spending' and 'set financial goals' but every time I log in, it's like they expect me to already know what I'm doing. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm starting to think it's just a way for them to collect more data on us.
