Why does my wooden frame warp after sealing?

I built a simple pine picture frame and glued the corners with PVA. After sanding and applying a clear coat, the frame bends a few millimetres after two days. I used a 3:1 mix of water to glue, left it to dry for 24 hours, then sealed with a water‑based varnish. It’s a small frame, only 12x12 inches, but the warping is noticeable. I’ve read about pre‑stressing and using a thicker glue, but I’m not sure which method is best. Would a different adhesive or a different wood help? Should I try a different sealing process? Any practical tips to keep a frame flat? Thanks.

Note: I’m not looking for a theory lesson, just a straightforward fix I can do right now.
