finally nailed that shot

I've been trying to capture this one photo for weeks now... and I'm so relieved I finally got it right!! 📸 I was experimenting with different apertures and shutter speeds, and I think I've found the perfect combination for this particular scene. Maybe I'm just being too critical, but I feel like the lighting is just right... not too harsh, not too soft. What do you think?? Are there any other photography enthusiasts out there who have struggled with getting the perfect shot?? I'd love to hear about your experiences... and maybe get some feedback on my photo??

Are Michelin stars just a marketing gimmick nowadays?

I keep seeing new restaurants flash their Michelin stars like they’re a badge of honor, but honestly I feel like it’s turned into pure hype. 🌟 Maybe the guides are more about branding and less about actual culinary merit? It seems like a lot of places get praised for minimal creativity—just plating a pricey ingredient in a fancy dish and calling it art.

I’m not saying there’s no talent out there, but when the same chefs get repeated stars for basically the same style, isn’t it just a way to keep the elite circle closed? And the price tags—do you really think a $200 tasting menu is justified just because a star is on the wall? 🤔

What do you all think? Does the star system still matter, or should we be more critical of who decides the “best” food? I’m curious to hear if anyone’s had a truly transformative experience that wasn’t just about the star’s hype…

Overprecision in Spore Print Annotations: A Lingua-Funga Problem??

So here’s a niche pet peeve…? I’ve been obsessively labeling spore print descriptions with phonetic-style diacritics—like using ɐ instead of ‘a’ for the a in Armillaria to denote vowel reduction? I know it sounds pedantic… But isn’t consistency in technical jargon crucial for collaboration??? 😓 Like… how linguistics shuns unregulated loanword transcriptions… Shouldn’t we standardize morphosyntactic descriptors like [spore: ellipsoidal] instead of vague terms like “cigar-shaped”… or do we risk alienating 90% of casual growers? 😅 Maybe someone’s already written a paper slamming this—am I reinventing the wheel… or just a detail-obsessed fungi dork? Let’s debate! 🍄
