Cheap Film Redemption?
Loaded up that discount store 35mm again today. Braced for another waste of time... and got three keepers. Still looks like trash at ISO 800 but hey, $3 for three decent frames? My fancy pro-X reels better not forget how to develop. Anyone else treating film like a bet and winning?
Just wasted a whole roll on a cheap cheap roll
Loaded up a fresh 35mm pack from that discount store, double‑checked the loading, slammed the back in, and headed to the lab. Came back to a roll that looks like someone spilled coffee on it – random fog, streaks, and the whole thing is just a mess. No one told me the cheap stock is basically a lottery ticket. Anyone else get ripped off by the same cheap brands, or am I just cursed? Share your worst waste‑of‑film story so I can feel less alone.
Trying to push ISO 400 to ISO 1200 in low light. Did I waste this roll?
I shot a roll of Fuji Neopan 1600 (unlabeled as ISO 400 in the box) in a dim bar using zone focusing and underexposed it by two stops Develop it at D76 1:1 with a 20% push. The negatives look muddy as hell but the prints are sharp with strange shadow separation. Someone explain why this works or confirm I’m just hallucinating from expired chemicals. I’m not here for hand-holding, I want to know if pushing in the darkroom negates lens limitations or if I’m just being a cheap bastard.
