Just logged my first 10 hours on a Cessna 172S Skyhawk with G1000 – what’s next?
Finally hit the 10‑hour mark in my 172S Skyhawk equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXi. All the basic checklists, ADS‑B In‑traffic, and WAAS‑enabled GPS approaches are now second nature. The autopilot’s LNAV‑VNAV coupling actually feels smooth after a handful of mishaps.
Got a few questions:
- Should I start pulling night ops with the G1000? My airport’s runway lights are only HIRL‑A.
- Any recommended SOP tweaks for transitioning from VFR to IFR in this rig?
- Thoughts on adding a digital standby instrument for redundancy?
Appreciate any practical advice. Not looking for textbook theory – just what’s useful in the cockpit.
