why does the zwo asi 290mm claim 2.8µm pixel size when real tests show ~3.5µm?

saw a recent post bragging about the zwo asi 290mm's "2.8µm" pixels rn but my own calibration frames and the star fwhm stats say otherwise

  • specs sheet says 2.8µm, but dark frames show read‑noise pattern consistent with ~3.5µm
  • independent review on astro‑review.net measured 3.48µm using a 50mm f/5.6 refractor
  • zwo's marketing blurb even mentions "industry‑leading" pixel size, yet the raw data tells a different story

tbh this feels like a classic case of overselling to get newbies to drop cash on the hype train. if you're considering the asi 290mm for deep‑sky work, double‑check the actual pixel pitch yourself or look at third‑party labs before you bite.

anyone else got receipts that prove the specs are inflated? drop your data lol
