The so‑called "upgrade" to VAR firmware v2.3.1 is nothing but an excuse for the league to delay matches while the tech geeks fiddle with their Kalman‑filter thresholds. We’re supposed to trust a 0.23 second decision window when the system still flags a "soft" offside on a 30‑yard diagonal run? Meanwhile the off‑side line drifts by half a metre because the Lidar array was calibrated with a cheap CCTV lens.

• The new "EIGC" metric is a made‑up number to justify higher "accuracy" claims – it’s basically a weighted xG that nobody asked for.
• Broadcasts now cut to a 5‑second "analysis" screen that repeats the same graphic three times while the ball sits idle. Fans are left wondering if the referee is watching a live match or a replay of a 2009 goal.
• Clubs are forced to hire "VAR compliance officers" just to fill budget lines, a role that clearly exists to keep the tech vendors in business, not to improve the game.

Bottom line: the league is betting on a tech arms race while the average supporter just wants a decent ball and a decent half‑time. If you think this is progress, you’re either in the sponsor’s payroll or you haven’t seen a live match in years.

Anyone else sick of the VAR circus, or am I the only one who still watches for the actual football?
