Language learning pace

I've been thinking, is it just me or does the pace of language learning slow down significantly after the initial few months? I've been studying Spanish for about a year now and while I can hold basic conversations, it feels like I'm not progressing as quickly as I was when I first started. I'm starting to think that maybe the beginner's phase is just easier to progress through because the foundation is being laid, but after that, it's all about nuances and subtleties which are harder to grasp. Anyone else experience this?

Help: My IPA transcription app on iPad Pro 12.9 keeps switching to French phonetics after I type Spanish words?

I’ve been using the IPA transcription feature on my iPad Pro 12.9 (iOS 17.3) to practice Spanish. Every time I type a word like "mañana", the app auto‑transcribes it as /maˈna.na/ but then flips to French IPA, showing /ma.nɑ.na/. I’ve double‑checked the settings: Language = Spanish, Keyboard = Spanish, IPA mode = On. Still, the output keeps toggling. I’ve tried reinstalling, resetting the keyboard, even using the iPadOS 17.4 update, but no luck. I’ve studied Spanish, French, Italian, and German, but this glitch is making my practice feel like a circus. Anyone else see this? Maybe a firmware bug? Or am I missing a hidden toggle? I’m hoping for a fix before I give up on my dream of mastering all four languages. Thanks!

How can I remember irregular Spanish past participles?

I keep mixing 'escrito' and 'escribido'... both feel right. Flashcards help a bit, but they blur after a week. Any mnemonic or method that actually sticks?? I study ~30 mins daily, still slip up.

Tough time with verb conjugations

I'm having a bit of a crisis with verb conjugations in Spanish. Specifically, the subjunctive mood is killing me. I know it's used to express doubt or uncertainty, but when to use it is just not sticking in my head. I've been trying to practice with some online exercises, but I still feel like I'm guessing most of the time. Anyone else have a hard time with this? How did you finally get a handle on it?
