My small tarp went out of shape, and I had only a handful of 18‑0 nylon Dritz (#00W) for a makeshift repair. I tied a 6‑ft length in a knot on both ends and hooked it across a 10‑ft span of the tarp.

• The thread was under roughly 200 lb total from the wind when the test wind stopped.
• It snapped after just 30 seconds, pulling the tarp flat. I could see the knotted ends flared as if it tried to hold.
• According to the data sheet, the nylon has a tensile strength of ~110 g, but the sheet didn't list an ultimate tensile force under 120‑rpm cycling.

What did I misinterpret? Was I blowing the tension by knot‑ting so heavily, or is it that 18–0 is just too delicate for a storm scenario? I’ve never done an outdoor fix with this kind of thread, so I’m stuck in a weird intersection of hobby and survival. I think a lot of us here might know a trick for the last meter to stretch a nylon string? Or maybe it’s better to use 16–0 for these circumstances?

Looking for any other tales of embroidery‑thread rescuers in the outdoors, or maybe a rule of thumb on when it’s safe to swap craft filament for real‑world tension.

I was messing around with my headset yesterday and I started feeling queasy after like 20 minutes. Is that normal?? I've only had it for a week so I'm not sure if I'm just getting used to it or what. I was playing this really immersive game and I think that might have made it worse. Do others get motion sickness in VR or is it just me?

I just had the worst experience with my VR headset... it keeps glitching out on me. I'm trying to get into this new game and it just won't let me. The graphics are all messed up and the controls are unresponsive. What's the point of even having VR if it's just gonna freeze up on you?? I've been trying to get into goldwork embroidery and I'm having some trouble with the hoops. I've got a few different sizes of the Sullivan's embroidery hoops, but I'm not sure which one to use for a specific design. I've heard that the 4 inch hoop is good for intricate work, but I've also seen people using the 6 inch hoop for goldwork. Can someone explain the difference to me? I've been using the 4 inch hoop so far, but I'm worried that it's going to be too small for the design I want to do. I've also considered using a hoop with a tighter stitch tension, like the ones by Clover. Does anyone have any experience with those? I'd really appreciate any advice or guidance.

so i was doing my taxes for my little side gig embroidering and i got stuck on this one thing. can you claim the cost of threads as a write off? like specifically for embroidering machines like my brother pe800. i feels like it should be a supply cost or something but my tax lady is being super vague about it. does anyone else have experience with this? seems like a no brainer to me

so i just finished celeste for the 3rd time.. and holy smokes the way they layer the platforming challenges feels like.. cross-stitch? like how you gotta master each stitch before moving on??? the game basically uses spaced repetition theory but makes it fun.. i mean the asriel routes are like advanced techniques you only attempt after building muscle memory.. but why am i the only one who sees the parallels between pixel-perfect jumps and embroidery tension???
