i thought i knew wine pairing
so i was at this fancy restaurant last night and they had this amazing dish - roasted duck with cherry compote. i asked the waiter for a wine pairing rec and he suggested a pinot noir. sounds good right? well, turns out it was way too light for the dish. the flavors just got lost. i ended up switching to a merlot which worked way better. anyone else have a similar experience where they thought they knew what they were doing but really didnt?
