Lighting in Theater Productions

I've been thinking a lot about the recent theater productions I've seen, and I'm really curious to hear what others think about the impact of lighting on the overall atmosphere of a play. It's amazing how a well-designed lighting scheme can completely transform the mood of a scene, isn't it? I mean, take a play like Hamlet - the dim, moody lighting in the scenes where Hamlet is contemplating his father's ghost is just so evocative, it really draws you in and makes you feel like you're right there with him. But then, in a play like A Midsummer Night's Dream, the bright, whimsical lighting in the forest scenes is just perfect for conveying the sense of magic and wonder.
