Finally nailed that simulated emergency landing!

I just completed my last session on the ATR 72 flight simulator and I actually made it into the holding area after the engine loss drill. For months the automatic system would let the planing pitch out, and I was stuck trying to keep it under 250 knots. I switched from the textbook‑ish procedures I was taught to the exact IFR step‑by‑step from the pilot manual, and it finally stuck. Anyone else struggled with that or can confirm it's the same hiccup on the real aircraft?

Electric aircraft hype is hurting real progress

Everyone’s buzzing about electric planes as the next big thing, but the tech is still decades away from being practical. We’re pouring research funds into battery weight limits while proven fuel efficiency upgrades sit idle. is the industry really better off chasing a fantasy when we could be cutting emissions with better aerodynamics and lighter composites now???

autoland is overrated tbh

imo autoland systems r not as safe as ppl think they r... dont get me wrong they can b useful in certain situations but i think pilots r gettin too reliant on them. whats the point of havin a human pilot if ur just gonna let a computer do all the work?? i remember readin about a study that showed pilots who dont use autoland as much have better reaction times in emergency situations. idk maybe im just paranoid but i think we should b careful about relyin too heavily on automation

help me feel lesser about being wrong rn

tbh im a bit cringe about getting it wrong but like ok so i always thought va (maneuvering speed) was the max you ever want to yank the yoke but i got called out that it’s actually the speed above which you risk structural damage if y’all get into a tight turn. i just thought flying V-speed limits was more nuanced??

Do pilots usually keep handwritten flight logs or use digital tools?

just got my private pilot cert and starting to log my hours.

i keep a simple notebook, but i heard many use spreadsheets or the FAA logbook.

is it normal to keep a handwritten log? do people use digital tools? i want to stay organized but not overcomplicate.

any recommendations on what to use? also, how do you keep the log updated between flights? thanks!

airplane seat recline suddenly stops working rn

just realized my seat recline was jammed on the last flight and the flight attendant was like 'sorry no time we're on schedule' tbh that was a pain but hey the flight was still on time and the pilot handled the situation smoothly next time maybe check your seat before you buckle in or keep a spare elbow cushion in your bag lol
