Baked my ancestor data into a test tile. Used DuraGlaze 330 on a #12 potter's wheel, set electric kiln to 1030 °C. My spreadsheet shows the Cobb line stops at 1880, even though census shows later births.

Apparently the heat cracks DNA threads embedded in the slip. Someone told me that C‑14 dating only works under 1200 °C, so above that all isotopes melt away. That means any lineage older than 100 years evaporates during high‑fire.

Anyone see a study proving ceramics destroy genealogical markers? I’m thinking it’s a standard effect, just not documented well.

I recently uncovered a small shard of pottery at a dig site in the lower valley of the River X. The fragment is glazed, but the glaze is cracked and there's no clear stratigraphic layer to tie it to. I've tried to use thermoluminescence, but the lab returned a wide range that feels like a foggy window—nothing concrete. I'm stuck. Anyone have experience with cross‑referencing ceramic typology or using Bayesian modeling to narrow down the date? Also, any tips on dealing with a fragment that might be a recycled piece? i was reading about the archaic period in minoa and i got stuck on the whole ceramics thing. like, what's the diff between a kylix and a skyphos? are they pretty much the same or is it just me? anyone got some insight on minoan pottery from that time? i feel like i'm missing something
