why do people still use nightcrawlers

lol tbh i dont get the obsession with nightcrawlers theyre just bigger dirt worms but way overrated id rather use real worms or even a plastic worm than deal with those stiff dry things they call bait also why is everyone so loud when casting lol if you scare all the fish with that yank city swing youll never catch anything but a shoulder injury

Fly vs Spinning: which reel is better for short stream fishing?

Been on the creek for weeks and can’t decide…Fly reels say they’re more sensitive for tiny streams, but spinning reels are cheaper and simpler to use. Which actually gives a better chance to snag trout? Some swear fly is king, others swear spinning wins. Anyone who can prove the difference? Also line size matters, right? I’m on 4‑6 lb monofilament. Is that even a good choice? I need hard facts, not fluff. Anyone got data or personal stats? I’m done with the same arguments. Let’s get real???

vegan bait options for fishing imo

so i went fishing over the weekend and was thinking about how weird it is that we use worms and other animals as bait. anyone have any experience with vegan fishing bait? i've heard of using corn or dough balls but idk if they're effective. also are there any specific brands or recipes people use? tbh seems like it could be a fun experiment

How do lunar phase superstitions affect kayak casting more than trolling motor thrust ratings???

Quick poll: do you fish based on moon phases (tbh i still cringe when my garmin 245 says 'error 69' but whatever) or trust your trolling motor specs?? A) full moon magic B) minn kota vs budget motors.. imo casting accuracy is like public speaking—audience (fish) mood vs your setup lol

Fishing spots affected by rising sea temps?

I've been noticing some changes in the fishing spots I usually visit... maybe it's just me but it seems like the fish are moving to deeper waters. I feel like this could be related to the rising sea temperatures?? Is anyone else experiencing this? Maybe we can discuss some strategies for adapting to these changes... or maybe I'm just overthinking it?

Why "Karate for Focus" is just another ego‑trip for anglers

Every time someone posts about doing karate drills to improve casting precision, I roll my eyes. The whole "martial arts builds discipline" spiel is a marketing gimmick sold to us fish‑obsessed types who think a roundhouse kick will make their line tighter. In reality, you spend hours perfecting a kata that has nothing to do with reading water, and you end up with sore knees and a false sense of superiority. The only thing you actually train is how to look disciplined while your bait sits untouched. Seriously?? If you want real improvement, stop buying overpriced gi classes and start actually practicing the basics: knot tying, tide tables, and patience. The rest is just ego‑inflated fluff.
